Wall to Wall Talent!
On Saturday 18th May 2019 members of the Academy represented the organisation in most classes at the Annual Wall Music Festival . The day started with the Grade 3/4 class Sam played ‘The Holy City’ and Morgan ‘Share My Yoke’ The adjudicator commented on the very high standard of playing in the class of 5 awarding all competitors marks of distinction. Morgan and Sam came joint 2nd with 89 points.
The next class was the Grade 3/4 duet. Morgan and Dylan played ‘Something Stupid’ gaining 85 points and joint 1st place. After a break for lunch the first class was the Under 16 Air Varie. Morgan performed ‘Wiedrkehr’ and came first with 89 points also being asked to return and perform it again at the Gala concert. Next was the Under 16 quartet class featuring Morgan, Sam, Dylan and Tom conducted by Lee playing the ‘Out of Africa’ theme . Whilst they were the only entry in this class they gave a commendable performance achieving 86 points.
The open Solo class was only entered by Morgan and Sam. Morgan played first with ”Pastorale’ and Sam played ‘Ava Maria’ and won the class with 89 points . Finally the Ensemble class which had 4 entries with the academy playing last . Opening with the jolly ‘Do Rai Me’ from the sound of music. Then featuring Caroline are principal cornet in the beautiful ‘I don’t know how to love him’ from Jesus Christ Superstar and closing with the exciting ‘Kalinka’ which the adjudicator enjoyed so much she forgot to write any comments! We were awarded second with 87 points.
A very successful day for the organisation, achieved through the dedication to practice by the individuals themselves, the drive and commitment shown by Lee in rehearsals and as always the support from the parents enabling us to enter these events.
